چکیده
CHEST, 68: 2, AUGUST, 1975 We, therefore, hypothesize that a low pleural fluid pH in a patient with a parapneumonic effusion indicates that the effusion is in the fibropurulent stage and that there are at least some loculi present which contain purulent material. Diagnostic thoracocentesis with measurement of pleural fluid pH should be performed on all patients with parapneumonic effusion. to evaluate the need for intercostal tube drainage of the pleural space.

Human Dirofilariasis in Japan
Human filariasis is mainly caused by the parasites, Wuchereria bancrofti and Brugia malayi, whose adults live in the lymphatic vessels of humans. In Japan, bancroftian filariasis was once endemic, but has been completely eradicated from the country. Although imported cases of filariasis are occasionally reported [1,2,3], no autochthonous case has been identified in recent years. By contrast, mo...

Heartworm disease is caused by a parasite called Dirofilaria immitis, better known as heartworm. The parasites are long, hair-like worms that live in the right ventricle of the heart and the pulmonary artery, which is the large blood vessel that carries blood from the heart to the lungs. Dogs become infected when they are bitten by an infected mosquito that is carrying immature heartworms calle...
متن کامل18-FDG Uptake in Pulmonary Dirofilariasis.
Solitary pulmonary nodules are a common finding on chest radiography and CT. We present the case of an asymptomatic 59-year-old male found to have a 13 mm left upper lobe nodule on CT scan. The patient was asymptomatic and the CT was performed to follow up mediastinal and hilar lymphadenopathy that had been stable on several previous CT scans. He had a history of emphysema and reported a 15 pac...

Dirofilaria immitis is a widespread mosquito-borne parasite that causes dirofilariasis, a commonly diagnosed disease of dogs that is rarely reported in cats and humans. A mosquito survey was conducted in Itacoatiara in the State of Rio de Janeiro, from March 1995 to February 1996, using canine, feline and human baits. A total of 3,667 mosquitoes were dissected for D. immitis larvae, representin...
